Joe Buck's First Date with Wife: From 'Smug A--hole' to Soulmate (2025)

The Power of First Impressions: Overcoming Stereotypes and Finding Love

In a heartwarming revelation, Joe Buck, ESPN's renowned NFL play-by-play broadcaster, shared an intriguing story about his journey to finding love with his wife, Michelle Beisner-Buck. But here's where it gets controversial... Michelle initially had a less-than-favorable impression of Joe, and it all started with a car rental commercial!

During an appearance on "The Pivot" podcast, Joe explained that his friend and fellow broadcaster, Rich Eisen, played matchmaker, introducing him to Michelle, a talented features reporter. However, Michelle was hesitant, having formed an opinion based on Joe's appearance in a national car rental ad. She thought he looked like a "smug a--hole," a perception Joe himself admitted to sharing.

"When I saw her, she was standing against the wall at Mile High Stadium, and I was like, 'I think I'm gonna stalk that person.' I knew right away she was different, and I just couldn't let it go," Joe recalled.

Despite the rocky start, Joe and Michelle agreed to meet for dinner in St. Louis, where she was covering a Rams game. Michelle even took precautions, insisting on separate transportation to the date, just in case Joe turned out to be a psycho or simply awful! But Joe was determined, and he picked her up, and the rest, as they say, is history.

"I knew before the appetizers arrived that I was going to marry her. It was the greatest decision I've made as an adult," Joe said with conviction.

The couple's journey to marriage wasn't without its challenges. They dated for a year before tying the knot in 2014, and in 2018, they welcomed their twin sons, Wyatt and Blake. Joe joked that he proposed in his signature play-by-play voice, a unique twist to their love story.

And this is the part most people miss... Joe's marriage to Michelle came after a 19-year marriage to his previous wife, Ann Archambault Buck, with whom he has two daughters, Trudy and Natalie. Their divorce in 2011 left Joe with a different perspective on marriage, one that Michelle helped him rediscover.

"It's probably the last thing I thought I was going to do again, and the first thing I'm glad I did do again," Joe shared, reflecting on his journey to finding love with Michelle.

So, what do you think? Is it possible to overcome first impressions and find true love? Or do you believe in the power of initial perceptions? Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below!
